Kerala Samajam through its yester years..!

1957

Formed Kerala Samajam by merging to associations Kerala Club and Malayalee Samajam. The founder President was Mr. PR Voswanathan and Secretary Was Mr. A Kumaran. The association functioned with out any office premises. Subramanian. A.K,  Rajan. P, Menon. K.N, MAny. V.H.S, Narayanan. K.R, George Kurian, Anandan. M, Velayudhan. K, Krishnan. P.K  were the other members in the committee.

1958

The team led by President  Mr Shankaranarayanan. T.N was accompanied by Secretary Subramanian. R.K, and other members in the Committee were Paul. N.M, Rajan. P, Vaidyanathan. K.R, Ponnappan. P.A, Ramakrishnan. T, George Kurian, George John, Abraham. P.K, Krishnan. P.K.

1959

A HUMBLE BEGINNING – IN A CAR SHED..!
Mr. KK Padmanabhan assumed the office of Kerala Samajam and he allowed his car shed to function as the office of Kerala Samajam.  Newspapers like Deccan Herald and Mathrubhoomi was available. Mathrubhoomi daily was reaching Bangalore on the third day only..! From 1960 to 1966 Mr. VKP Menon was the president.  CG Kaimal, CK Nair,  George Kurian, KR Narayanan, Keshavan Nair, KCR Nambiar and others were there in the team.

1966

The president was Mr. EV Jacob and during that year Samajam constructed a shed behind the quarters allotted by the management of ITI Ltd. This was used for the reading room later.

1967

The team leader was Mr. NK Nair, assisted by Secretary KR Narayanan, Joint Secretary GNR Nambiar, K Sreenivasan Nair Vice President, and further in 1968 Mr. KK Thampy, TV Joy, Venugopalakurup M, Narayanan AK, Ponnappan R, Ramachandran KM were there in the team.

1969

LOGO FOR KERALA SAMAJAM
The logo of our Kerala Samajam was designed by Artist Late VG Devaraj and the same was approved by the Annual General Body Meeting. This year the team was lead by KK Thampi President and M.Venugopalakurup as General Secretary.

1974

COMMENCEMENT OF POST DEATH COMPENSATION FUND
Kerala Samajam Started the Post Death Compensation fund in this year. The working committee made a draft byelaw of Samajam and decided to get the approval of the ensuing AGM. The team leader was KM Ramachandran assisted by M.Gangadharakurup, VR Sudhakaran, Aboobaker V Sadananadan and others.

1975

FIRST BYLAW FOR KERALA SAMAJAM
Kerala Samajam framed the new Bye-laws (Ru;es and regulations including that of librarary rules). The working area of Samajam was divided in to six zones such as ITI Colony, Ramamurthy Nagar, Vijanapura, Tin-factory, KR Puram and B-Narayapura.

1978

THE FIRST SUBCOMMITTEE FOR COMMENCEMENT OF SCHOOL
The annual General Body Meeting of Samajam unanimously resolved to check the viability of commencing a School. A Sub committee was formed with KM Ramachandran, AP Ramakrishnan and George Kurian, George Inchakkal. KM Ramachandran was the President, MS Chandrasekharan the Secretary and V.Sadanandan was the Treasurer during this year.

1979

LAND PURCHASE AT VIJINAPURA
The Working Committee headed by Mr. Devadasan V, Assisted by General Secretary M Gangadharakurup  Vice President PP Menon, Treasurer NC Jacob and team started working for purchasing a land at Vijinapura. A subcommittee constituted comprising of KM Ramachandran, Ap Ramakrishnan, George Kurian, CK Nair and Inchikkal George. Parallel to this the collection of funds through Rs.2/- Gift Draw tickets commenced. The land at Vijinpura was registerd in the name of Kerala Samajam in two different parts during 1979 and 1980. The AGM of 1979-80 working year discussed about the school activities and decided to e bestow the responsibilities of the school on a Board named Dooravaninagar Kerala Samajam Educational Society (DKSES) the name proposed by Sri V.Sadanandan and approved by the AGM.

1980

REGISTRATION OF SAMAJAM UNDER KSR ACT – FIRST FOUNDATION STONE OF JUBILEE INSTITUTIONS.
This year witnessed the laying of first foundation for Jubilee institutions!The foundation stone was laid by Sri Premkumar the then Taluk Board member KR Puram in the presence of Prof Hamid the then DDPI Govt of Karnataka. The working committee of the year was led by NK Nair President, TA Joseph Vice President, MS Chandrashekaran General Secretary, T.Ravindran Treasurer. During this year, on 16th March 1980, our organization was registered under Karnataka Registration of Societies Act with Registration number as 132/1979-80.  The memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations were prepared in English and filed for registration by the General Secretary Sri MS Chandrasehkaran.

1981

FIRST FUND RASING CULTURAL PROGRAMME
A Musical Program at Chowdaiah Memmorial hall was organized as a fund raising program for building construction of Jubilee School. The Team of Working Committee lead by Late TS Krishnan President, A Viswambharan Vice President, Narayana Warier General Secretary, and Sri V Sadanandan Tresurer.

1982

SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS OF KERALA SAMAJAM DOORAVANI NAGAR.

The entire concentration of the team of Working Committee members was to open the school during this year. A small sheet roofed shed was constructed by then. And started construction of the school building with three class rooms. Jubilee School was symbolically inaugurated with the sheet roofed room. Rahima Begum AEO East inaugurated the school and Madam Lopus Varghese the senior most teacher of the well-known kindergarten school of ITI Vidyamandir, initiated the teaching by making a child write the first alphabets in the rice bed traditionally.

Further the construction of the first three class room was completed and the same was dedicated to the public by Sri Swaminathan, the then CMD of ITI Ltd in presence of Late Suryanarayana Rao MLA of Varthur who was a guiding spirit for Kerala Samajam in establishing the institution.During this year the team was led by Dr.S.Sheshadri President, Ravinathan Vice President, V.Sadanandan General Secretary, TE Varghese Treasurer, Susheela Sheshadri & CK Nair Board members etc.

1984

THE FIRST ONAM CHANTHA
To help our members and general public to celebrate Onam, Kerala Samajam organized an Onam Fair since 1984. This event is the brain child of our former President Late TS Krishnan.  The distribution of Onam specialties was made possible in the form of `Onam Chantha’. It is organized for two days to start with and made four days every year prior to the day of `Thiru Onam’ at Jubilee School Vijanapura managed by the Samajam.  Later in 2022 this event was shifted to Jubilee English High School NI Layout RM Nagar. Stalls of various consumables and household articles, are organized here by the Samajam and other private institutions.Though Onam Chantha is the distribution of Onam specialties at unimaginable low prices it tends to control uneven price hike in the market during Onam season. The working committee members of the year wereKM Ramachandran President, TI Subran General Secretary, TE Varghese Treasurer, V Sadanandan, ERK Warrier, VK Thyagrajan wet.

1985

JUBILEE SCHOOL RECOGNITION
First application for recognition was rejected without any reason. The team of Board of director of Samajam  lead by   KM Ramachandran, V Sadanandan, ER.K Warrier, VK Thyagarajan N Rajappan, TE Varghses etc approached the authorities requesting to re consider. A representation through Varthur MLA Sooryanarayana Rao was submitted to the Minister Somashekhar. He ordered the Commissioner Adhip Chodhary to visit personally the same and reconsider the application. Further the Education Minister HG Govindagowda  himself visited the school. With his report the CM Ramakrishna Hegde and his cabinet approved our application for recognition Jubilee school up to VII Std.  Mr. Michel Fernandez, MLA, supported Kerala Samajam in following with the government officials.
KATHAPRASANGAM BY SAMBHASHIVAN
On 15 Aug 1985 Kerala Samajam Dooravaninagar conducted a big event Kathaprasangam by the leading artist of Kerala Sambhashivan. This was a fund raising event and many Keraliets from different part of the city enjoyed the event.

1987

Jubilee School with one sheet roofed shed and three classrooms was further extended by constructing another 4 class rooms. Fund raising for building construction augmented. Gift Draw initiated and collected a good amount.

Onam Chantha converted as a carnival at Jubilee School. Coming out from the class rooms to the shamiyana pandal outside the event become more popular in Bangalore. Newspaper advertisement, serial lights decorations etc attracted the general public.

Private Stalls were provided to distribute household items.The fund flow of Samajam increased and construction of School Building continued. The working committee was led by President M. Venugopalakurup, General Secretary SK Nair,  Treasurer T RaavindranA Vishwambharan, N Rajappan etc.

First time a Professional Drama troop from Kerala ‘Vaikom Malavika’ performed a Malayalam drama during onam celebrations at ITI Vidhyamandir.

1988

PROFESSIONAL DRAMA BY ALLEPPEY THEATERS.
The most professional and familiar drama theatre troupe, Alleppey theaters staged two cinema scope dramas at Shivaji Nagar stadium Bangalore on 21st and 22nd May 1988.  This was also a fund raising event.  The plays named ‘Ancham Thirumurivu’, ‘Sanchari’ were an amazing cultural presentation for the Bangalore malayalees. The Working Committee was led by resident M. Venugopalakurup, General Secretary Sk Nair Treasurer T Raavindran, P Divakaranan, N.Rajappan etc.

1989

First floor of Jubilee School building constructed. Started Kannada Classes and Malayalam Classes. Classes for dance and drawing commenced at Jubilee school open to all. The team leaders were President V.Devadasan, Sudsheela Sheshadri, KP Radhakrishnan.

1990

KERALA SAMAJAM LADIES WING STARTED

Kerala Samajam initiated the conception of ladies wing during 1990. Smt Sudheela Sheshadri the then Vice President has been nominated as the Chairperson and Smt Vijaya Devadas  as the General Convener. Smt Lakshmi Nizamuddin a renowned social worker and W/o Sri Nizamuddin the then IGP, Karnataka, inaugurated the movement on 2nd October 1990 in connection with the Onam celebrations of that year.

The first historical get-together of the ladies wing named ‘Sthree Mela’ was held at ITI Officers Club on 11 January 1991 and the guest of honor of the day was Smt Meera Saxena Director for Women and Child welfare Govt of Karnataka. Sri P Divakaran the President of Kerala Samajam welcomed the gathering and Sri SK Nair proposed vote of thanks for both the functions.

DKS NEWS
The proposal of having a house magazine presented by Sri SK Nair the then General Secretary was executed by the working committee of Kerala Samajam Dooravaninagar during 1990 under the leadership of President Sri P. Divakaran  A beautiful six page A4 size Black and white (with front cover colour) booklet was brought successfully. it was on 2nd May 1990, the first copy of the then DKS News (Later renamed as KSD News) was  handed over to Late M Venugopalakurup former President of Samajam  and the Editor of DKS News by the Guest of the day Sri AK Nair, a renowned social worker and organizer of HHF’90 Bangalore.

1992

VANITHA SANGAMAM 1
Kerala Samajam organized the Vanitha Samgamam of the year on 31.08.1984 at ITI Community Hall. The then City Police Commissioner P Kodandaramaiah, Dr. Kamala Unnikrishnan, Dr Leela Manikkothu etc were the guests of the day. Shakunthala Devi the ‘human computer’ demonstrated her skill in mathematics. The Vanithasamgamam was a successful event throughout the day. Participants were provided with Lunch, tea and snakes. Samajam President Sri Peter George welcomed and SK Nair General Secretary proposed vote of thanks.

1994

JUBLEE ALUMNI FORMED
The first batch SSLC students performed well secured 65% first class and 98 % pass. Malayalam Class for malyalee students were introduced. Construction of Office block completed and inaugurated by Sri ARK Menon former President of ECA Bangalore.  Jubilee Alumini association was formed during this year.  The team leaders of the year was Sri Peter George President, Sri SK Nair General Secretary and Sri V.Sadanandan DKSES Secretary, Thyagarajan Treasurer etc.

1996

‘YESUDAS NITE’

It was on 20th January 1996, the Garden City – Bangalore witnessed a mega musical extravaganza, at RSI Stadium, MG Road Bangalore.  Organized by Kerala Samajam Dooravaninagar, with the support of number of volunteers of Samajam and with the help of many socio cultural organizations of Bangalore.

Sri ARK Menon, and industrialist and former President of ECA Bangalore was the Patron in Chief of the event. Sri Peter George Chairman, Late R. Sreedharan Vice Chairman, Late T Ravindan Treasurer, Late Abdul Rahman General Secretary were the team behind.

Sri SK Nair, Sri VK Thyagarajan and Sri AB Shaj were the Generll Convenors of the event.

Sri Shamim  GM of Nerolac Paints, Late KPP Nambiar – NAMTECH, Sri Ivan Nigli of  Ruby Liquid Blue were the the prime sponsors of the event.

The estimated crowd at the venue as the audience was about 18500. Kerala Samajam could collect a net profit of Rupees 380000/- with this mega show. This is recorded as the best ever mega show conducted in Bangalore by Malayalee organization till today.

1997

‘THIRAYUM THEERAVUM’ - FEATURE FILM
A Malayalam movie acted by many of our Sajam Members  was screened at ITI Vidyamandir. Sri. Abdul Karim, Sri. P Divakaran, KK. Somashekharan Nambiar, Joseph Varghese, Balakrishnan Nambiar TV, SK.Nair etc were acted in this film produced by Gouthaman for Films Division of India. Sri TV Chandramohan was the team manager.
FIRST SCHOOL BUS ON ROAD
By utilizing the net profit of the mega show ‘Yesudas Nite’ the working committee decided to purchase a secondhand bus from the nearby St Antony’s School. However on a later the working committee felt that it was a wrong decision as the bus started giving trouble on road many a times. Hence this bus has been sold out and planned for a new Bus for the school. During this year the team was led by TS Krishnan President, MS Chandrasekharan Vice President, SK Nair General Secretary, TE Varghese Treasurer, MK Janardhanan and K Vijayaraghavan the board members.

1998

LAND PURCHASE AT NRI LAYOUT
The Annual General Body meeting of Kerala Samajam 1995-96 approved the proposal of purchasing a land with a budget of 65 lakhs which was presented by SK Nair the General Secretary. It took two years to organize basic fund and to identify the land. Finally the land at NRI Layout was identified and made a specia agreement with the land lord that ‘incase if Samajam could not purchase the land on account of the shortage of fund within one year the entire amount paid to the land lord as advance will be refunded’. However Samajam purchased the land during 1997-99. Fund collection started with a scheme of ‘Rs.200/- to donate for one Sq. Ft land’. Later the remaining amount was collected from members on refundable basis without interest.

1999

KERALA PAGES

Kerala Pages was a novel thought proposed by the then General Secretary  SK Nair to organize a directory of world malayalees at large. The Working Committee approved the same and started working for it. To start with Samajam planned to collect the address and contact numbers of Bangalore Malayalees. Published the first issue on 21st of March 1999 at Century club auditorium Cubbon Park.

In the year 1998 Kerala Samajam Dooravaninagar made a valient attempt to publish a directory of malayalees in Bangalore. Our committee members went round all parts of Bangalore to collect addresses and telephone numbers of malayalees in Bangalore to register entry into the directory and aptly named it ‘Kerala Pages’. Our President Sri. Peter George, General Secretary Sri. S.K.Nair and other Committee members took leadership in preparation of this book. Response from the participants were excellent. Second stage Samajam included the available address lists of the Malayalees of Chennai and Hyderabad.

The sad demise of the General Secretary T Ravindran, while working for Kerala Pages at Dasarahally was a shock for the entire team. But still it continued publishing few more issues.Four issues were released and then on account of various technical reasons the project got discontinued. Still the aim of restoring the same is on the anvil.

T RAVINDRAN MEMORIAL DISTRESS RELIEF FUND.
On 12th July 1999 Samajam President Sri Peter George declared naming the distress relief activities of Samajam as T.Ravindran Memmorial Distress Relief Fund in memory of our former General Secretary Late T Ravindran. His unflagging enthusiasm to wipe away the tears of downtrodden has kindled the light of service in this regard also. Samajam has instituted a commemorative scheme in this regard and rightly named it as TRMDRF –T Ravindran Memorial Distress Relief Fund.The team leaders of the year were Peter George President, Ivan Nigli Vice President, TV Chandramohan General Secretary, SK Nair DKSES Secretary TE Varghese Treasurer etc.
JUBILEE COLLEGE INAUGURATION
Jubilee college building constructed and was inaugurated by Late A Krishnappa the then Ministr of Karataka, on 16th July 2001.  Later Jubilee PU College shifted to Vijanapura and the premises were allotted for Jubilee English High School.

2007

GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION OF THE SAMAJAM
Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Samajam was conducted in the year 2007. It was a mega event adorned by various celebrities from Kerala and Bangalore. Main cultural event of the day had been the exciting dance performance by Urvashi Shobana and team followed by a great musical extravagance by renowned malayalam playback singers K. Venugopal and Syanora. Lunch for the day was sponsored by the Chairman of Garden city college Dr. V. G. Joseph and the Samajam also released a Souvenir in commemoration of the event for which the main sponsor was the popular anti-corruption activist Mr. T.J.Abraham. All the members who contributed to the growth of the Samajam in various ways were awarded.
25th YEAR CELEBRATION OF JUBILEE SCHOOL
This year also earmarked the 25th year celebration of Jubilee School Vijinapura which included an educational seminar comprising of popular technocrats of Bangalore and a mega event in Jubilee School along with the annual day, His Excellency Governor of Karnataka Sri V.N. Chaturvedi was the Guest of honor of the event.The team leader of the year were Peter George President, Adv Krishnan Vice President, Dennis Paul General Secretary, Muralidharan Nair DKSES Secretary, Thygarajan Treaasurer etc.

2017

25th YEAR CELEBRATION OF SAMAJAM LADIES WING
25th year celebrations of the Samajam Ladies wing was conducted on 26th March 2017 Ladies wing brought out a colorful cultural festival highlighted by a musical extravagance conducted by Asianet Idea star singer winner and playback singer Joby George and team. The Ladies wing also arranged to honor and award two renowned women Dr. Anata Sonu of ISRO who was the main person behind the “Chandrayan” and “Mangalayan” the countries prestigious astronomical satellites and Smt. Maĺlika devi, who started her career as an office clerk and rose up to level of deputy director in the Govt of Karnataka were honored and felicitated for their contribution. All the office bearers and Zonal conveners of Ladies wing were honored in the program. The team leaders of the year were Muralidharan Nair President, Cujith C Pani Vice President, Balakrishnan Nampoothiri General Secretary, Chandrasekharan Nair Secretary DKSES, Girish Menon Treaasurer, Shanthakumaran and Thankappan Board members etc.  The Ladies wing leaders were Sarasamma Sadanandan Chairperson, Jayanthi Ravi Vice Chairperson, Prema Vijayan Convenor, Sathy Sukumaran and Gracy Peter etc.

2018

60th YEAR CELEBRATION OF THE SAMAJAM
60th year celebration of the Samajam was conducted on 20th April 2018 at JEHS NRI Layout. This also was a mega event wherein  a special Souvenir “Hruthibheri” was released. Through this Samajam Collected a fund of 22 lakhs by publishing advertisements. All the Samajam workers who held the post of Zonal Secretaries and members above 60 years were specially invited and honored. Though filled with a series of cultural programs by the students of Jubilee Institutions, the Ladies wing and Youth wing of the Samajam, the day’s program ended with a special musical event “Anuraga Ganam Pole” led by renowned playback singer Anoop Shankar, highlighting all the hit Malayalam film songs for the last 60 years. Operational expenses of the musical group and mementos to the Samajam workers were sponsored by Mr. T.J.Abraham. A souvenir was released and collected Rs.22 lakhs for Samajam.The team leaders were Peter George President, Balakrishnan Namboothiri Vice President, A Manoharan General Secretary, Chandran MK Treasurer, Chandrasekhara Kurup Secretary DKSES, V Sadanandan and Prabhakaran Doard members.

2019

‘YUVA THARANG’
Youth wing conducted a historical event named ‘Yuva tharang’ on 26th Jnuary 2019. The fund for the event was collected through a gift draw. On account of the flood in Kerala and Karnatka the Onam celebrations were cancelled and the fund was donated to the flood relief fund. Sri Peter George President and Manoharan Ayyod General Secretary were the team leaders. Musical Night was organized in connection with the onam celebration on 6th October 2019 with Asianet Star Singer Najim, Harshed and Sindhu. Jubilee PU College was shifted to Vijanapura during this academic year.

2020

AMBULANCE SERVICES STARTED
This year witnessed the ‘dream comes true’ of Kerala Samajam members to have an ambulance. Mrs. Susheela Ramachandra, W/o of late Adv. Ramachandra donated one TT Ambulance. Our former President Sri P Divakaran took the initiative to Liaison with Madam Sushella Ramachandra. Now this Ambulance equipped with Freezer is there in operation. Apart from this our members also donated their might and we purchased another Mini Ambulance which is also under operation now. Ambulance service is available to the public at very reasonable rate.

2021

COVID VACCINATION CAMP
Samajam organized Covid19 Vaccination cam in association with the BBMP officials at Jubilee School Vijanapura and at Jubilee English High School at NRI Layout several times for the benefit of the local residents.
LAND PURCHASE AT VIJINAPURA
A subcommittee formed and initiated the process of purchasing a land measuring 26000 Sq ft  at Vijinapura. The  land cost considered was Rupees 12 crores  and the Working Committee paid Rs.2 crores towards advance and entered in to a purchase agreement. Sr Peter George President, Sri Chandrasekhara Kurup Secertary DKSES,  Sri Manoharan Ayyod General Secretary, Sri Balakrishnan Nampoothiri Vice President and Sri MK Chandran Treasurer etc were the team leaders of these years.

2022

LAND FOR JUBILEE COLLEGE PURCHASED

Registration of land completed by paying Rupees three crores as second advance and balance by availing a loan of seven crores from a cooperative bank.
